2011 Lexus GX 460

2011 Lexus GX 460 Car Review by Lauren Fix, The Car Coach

Some buyers don’t want to sacrifice luxury when buying a new vehicle. Especially if it’s an off-road SUV. Car Coach Lauren Fix has a solution.

The base model of the 2011 Lexus GX 460 is well equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a nine-speaker Premium Sound System, XM Satellite Radio, a USB and iPod port and Bluetooth capability and rear view camera as standard.

The Premium model adds three-zone automatic climate control, power-folding outside mirrors, a perforated leather-trimmed interior, heated steering wheel and heated middle-row outboard seats. Available features include a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

The SUV competes with the Acura MDX, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Land Rover LR4 and the Audi Q7.

The positives for the vehicle include the impressive off-road capabilities, the upscale cabin with seating for seven, plenty of high-tech safety options and that the GX manages to impress with a refined, smooth ride and respectable handling.

However, there are some dislikes. There is limited cargo capacity behind the third row, while the first-row seats are the ultimate in comfort. The second row lacks padding and the third row is best for kids. Also, the acceleration is lacking on highway passing.

Remember, when shopping for a new car, test drive as many vehicles in the class you are looking in to make sure you find the car that is best for you.
