2012 Nissan PRO-4X

2012 Nissan PRO-4X Car Review by Lauren Fix, The Car Coach

If you are a true off-roader, then there are a few trucks that might just fuel your interest. Lauren fix, the Car Coach has the details.

The 2012 Nissan PRO-4X truck line includes the Xterra, Titan, and Frontier pickups. Let’s take a closer look.

What is PRO4-X? The PRO-4X package tosses in Bilstein off-road struts, an electronically-locking rear differential, hill descent control, hill start assist, and a pair of off-road-only driving lamps mounted on the roof. Only available on four-wheel-drive models, these add around $1,500 to the bottom line.

Nissan and its trucks have a well-established history with ranchers, farmers, and off-road racers. Nissan offers three trucks in the new PRO-4X family that are ready for off-road driving.

I test drove the Nissan’s midsize Frontier truck, full-size Titan pickup and the compact XTerra, which were all locked and loaded with the PRO-4X packages. All three trucks proved to be impressive off-road trucks. Most drivers don’t take their SUVs or pickups off-road, but after test-driving these vehicles, you may have a new weekend adventure in your future.

The XTerra PRO-4X SUV features 16-inch wheels, BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires, a rear-locking differential and four skid plates. The XTerra packs a lot of features into its very capable off-road SUV:

4.0L V6 engine

Automatic or Manual transmission

16 city/20 hwy. mpg

4-wheel drive

Starts at: $29,670

The PRO-4X Frontier, described by Nissan as offering “full-size hardware with compact pickup value,” the Frontier is built with a fully boxed frame, five bed rails with a 4.0 liter V6.

The Frontier’s rugged construction results in a go-anywhere / do-anything pickup in either extended or crew cab configuration.

Automatic transmission

15 city/20 hwy. mpg

4-wheel drive

Starts at $21,120

The Titan is a full-size pickup complete with King Cab rear doors, factory spray-on bed liner, and Utili-track tie-downs. It’s powered by a 5.6L V8 or flex-fuel engine.

Automatic transmission

12 city/17 hwy. mpg

4-wheel drive

Starts at: $35,140

All three models come standard with:

Stability & Traction Control

Side/Curtain Airbags

Satellite radio

MP3 Player, iPod input (Optional)

Competes with:

Ford, GM and Dodge Trucks

If off-road driving isn’t your style, this may not be a line of trucks for you. Another option is to purchase aftermarket parts for your vehicle to make it off-road ready.

The Nissan Pro-4X line of trucks is an impressive mix of performance, style, and off-road capabilities.

Remember, when shopping for a new car, test drive as many vehicles as you can in the class you are looking in to make sure you find the car that is best for you. For more information visit www.nissan.com.
