The 2012 Toyota Prius V is an all-new wagon based on the standard Prius. Toyota says that the “V” in Prius V stands for “versatility. ”

The Toyota Prius V wagon has four doors and a lift gate. Inside is a traditional center bin, armrest, and center stack that gives easy access to trays, cup holders, and full color navigation and stereo systems.

My test drive north of NYC proved that the Prius V was perfect for that everyday commute. Simply tap the Prius V’s Power mode button and you get the extra passing power you need.

The 2012 Toyota Prius V comes in three different models. Model Two comes with standard features including:

•Keyless access system
•Push-button start
•iPod/USB-compatible stereo
•Automatic climate control
•16-inch alloy wheels
•Backup camera
•Tilting-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and climate controls in the steering wheel plus voice-activated navigation controls.

The Three and Five Models offer the following additional features:

•Entune cloud based infotainment system.
•One of two navigation systems
•Heated faux-leather seats
•Panoramic transparent roof
•JBL stereo

Options:

•Adaptive cruise control
•Self-parking system
•Toyota’s Safety Connect telematics service, similar to GM’s OnStar

A fully loaded Prius V tops out at $35,000.

Competes with:

•Ford Escape Hybrid
•VW Jetta Sport Wagon Diesel
•Chevy Volt
•Honda Insight

Likes:

•Great fuel economy
•Large trunk capacity
•Quiet and comfortable ride
•Plenty of head and legroom
•Clean, modern design in and out
•Entune infotainment system

Dislikes:

•Awkward driving position
•Disappointing interior materials
•Busy gauge cluster

The 2012 Toyota Prius V offers the ideal combination of fuel economy and interior space but lacks the power you may need. Still, it offers all the technology and safety options you could want.
