Our test drive vehicle had great torque and overtaking another vehicle on the highway can be achieved by just squeezing the throttle a little harder, without the need for the velvety smooth, quick-shifting 8-speed automatic to downshift. The Diesel feels quicker than its specs claim, which isn’t surprising given Porsche’s performance history.

Steering response, handling, turning radius and braking are more like a sports car than anSUV. Overall handling is so good that it continues to amaze me that the Cayenne is a truck.

The interior has very comfortable, quality adjustable seating with sporty style and the very highest standards. Under the hatch was a large, versatile luggage compartment.

The optional High-End Surround Sound System from Burmester® offers concert-hall qualities. Once you’ve heard it for yourself, you’ll know we are not exaggerating.

Competes with:

•Audi Q7 TDI
•Mercedes GL BlueTec
•Volkswagen Touareg TDI
•BMW X5 Diesel

Likes:

•Excellent handling
•Finely crafted interior
•Amazing torque
•High-tech features and options

Dislikes:

•Optional packages can make the car expensive.
•Should have a heads-up display

The 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel is a torquey SUV that offers class, performance and a 765-mile projected range. All this is in a very desirable vehicle that drives like a Porsche.
