2014 Mercedes E Class
If you’re shopping for a luxury car, the Mercedes E Class may be just what you’re looking for. In this edition of Car Coach, YNN’s Lauren Fix shows tells us about its style, elegance, and workmanship.
Model – 2014 Mercedes E class
MPG – 18 City / 24 Hwy Engine – multiple engines are offered, from a fuel efficient V6, to bi-turbo V8 to their Bluetec diesel engine plus and optional hybrid E400 model. Price – Starts at $51,400 for the E250
We test drove the full-line up of the 2014 Mercedes E class, which includes a sedan, wagon, coupe, cabriolet and the performance AMG. For each model there is a luxury and a sport version. The luxury line offers a more conservative look with a standing Mercedes Star on the hood, while the Sport version has the logo in the grille. One detail that was a standout for me was the optional “illuminated star.”
Both Luxury and Sport models offer standard automatic LED headlights, LED taillight accents, adaptive ride, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a center-mounted analog clock, a choice of three wood trims, 14-way power front seats with memory functions, auto-dimming mirrors, Bluetooth, and an 8-speaker sound system with a 6-CD changer and an iPod/USB audio interface. The E350 wagon also includes a power lift gate, a rearview camera and a rear-facing third-row seat. Both coupe & convertibles have moved the shifter to the steering column.
Mercedes offers the latest safety features in their intelligent drive systems, including pre-safe brake with pedestrian detection; sensor fusion with stereo cameras, which creates a 3-D image of the road ahead to monitors speed and direction of travel; and active lane keeping. Active lane keeping assist keeps car out of the danger zone with a visual alert, steering wheel vibration and then braking intervention. It will push the car back into its lane using radar to keep a lookout for other nearby cars.
