2021 Mercedes Benz E450 | Solid performance and luxury abound
Hybrid technology has really taken off over the last several years and for good reason. The 2021 E450 is the latest from Mercedes Benz that underscores its commitment to both hybrid and EV vehicles. There’s quite a bit of new, impressive technology upgrades in this 2021 model, so let’s dive in.
Powertrain:
First up, the engine. The E450 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that’s coupled with a 48-volt hybrid drive system which doubles as an electric supercharger. This combination is good for 362 horsepower with 369 lb-ft of torque. Look for a 0-60 time around 4.8 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 130 miles per hour.
Power delivery goes through a quick-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4-matic all-wheel-drive system. The EPA gives an economy rating of 23 in the city and a slightly improved over last year highway rating of 30 miles per gallon. Curb weight is 4,332 pounds.

The headlights and taillights closely resemble those on the smaller A-Class, while the grille is similar to the one on the GLE SUV. We love the sporty, sleek and stylish refresh this car has undergone. There’s a new hood, more aggressive front fascia and grille, along with a new trunk lid and lip spoiler, taillights, rear bumper and fake exhaust pipes.
This E450W4 rides on 18-inch wheels with run flat tires and provides a best in class ride quality in the “normal” driving mode. Shift it into “sport+” mode, however, and the air-suspension system gets noticeably stiffer while lowering the car and the steering wheel more weighted.
Inside:
Driver aids and safety include adaptive cruise control with resume that works amazingly well, lane-keeping assist that even works around mild curves, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. As of press time, there have been no crash tests done on this vehicle.

Inside, Mercedes Benz brings a lot of refinement. Its latest version of the MBUX infotainment system has a 12.3-inch screen that works in conjunction with a new touch pad control on the center console. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Augmented video navigation is impressive, with instructions, live video feed at intersections, and route based adaptive systems making this a leader in technology.
A vast array of personalization options, and ons of ways to personalize the E450 to your preferences. A Panoramic roof, Burmester audio system and details controls. Head-up display, surround-view camera (gives you a top-down view of the E-Class and its surroundings for tight parking situations), Adaptive headlights (swivel as you turn the steering wheel for better illumination in curves). 11 exterior color options. And there are front heated/cooled seats with massaging memory.
Pros : Impressive new powertrain, love the new MBUX system and overall technology.
Cons: Smaller trunk than competition
