New York (April 1, 2015) — An inside source from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office, who wishes to remain anonymous, has stated that not only will Hansom cabs be banned from NYC, but all vehicles with the exception of electric cars, construction, emergency and mass transit vehicles will also be phased out over the next five years.

A member of the new Mayor’s cabinet indicated that de Blasio plans to take his horse-drawn carriage ban a giant leap further by issuing the five-year phase out of all personal vehicles from New York City with the exception of electric taxis, construction, emergency and mass transit vehicles by the year 2020. It has also been reported that all taxis will be converted to either hydrogen or electric vehicles. If you thought the horse drawn carriages were a staple of Central Park, imagine personal vehicles used to navigate the busy streets of NYC no longer permitted.

This unprecedented action could largely be in response to scientists’ recent discovery of the increase in carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. According to a recent article from Guardian Liberty Voice, “…carbon dioxide in the atmosphere went through the roof of 400 parts per million, reaching the highest peak ever recorded since the beginning of measurements.” Heavily populated cities, such as New York City, emit large amounts of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere virtually with every automobile ride. Not only does this cause all sorts of health related issues, but it also contributes to the city’s high air pollution.

Recognizing that a significant portion of the city’s revenue is derived from bridge tolls, the five-year phase out plan will include a way to make up the money lost. One can expect there will likely be a substantial raise in subway and bus fairs, in addition to a large city tax increase on taxi fares, to offset the lack of toll money collected. What started as a goal to lead the horses to pasture, has now resulted in a plan to phase out all personal vehicles from New York City, which is quite possibly one of the greatest April Fool’s jokes you will hear all day
