From Photographer Matt Wetzel…
As those familiar to the raging bull brand know, it was only a matter of time before we saw the introduction of a light weight, higher horsepower variant of Lamborghini’s very successful Huracan platform. Taking a page from the Gallardo’s book, the Sant Agata Bologonese firm made sure to turn the dial up to 11 on their already mental car. Breaking the Nurburgring production car lap record during testing is just one testament to how quick this car will be. (For reference, the $1,000,000 Porsche 918 Spider lapped the Nordschleife is 6:57 seconds, the “third of the price” Hurcan Performante was a full 5 seconds faster at 6:52)
Lamborghini has always had a great recipe for exotic automobiles, so their latest creation is no exception. A mid-engine V10 paired to a lighting quick gearbox with extra aero dynamics are a sure fire combination that proved astonishing in the last generation Gallardo Super Legera and Performante. The first step in creating this monster is putting the standard Huracan on a diet; this consists of carbon fiber and carbon forged composites, everywhere. This carbon diet drops the weight of the car down 40kg down to just 1,382kg, allowing the next step of the recipe, aerodynamics to work its magic. Lamborghini’s all new down force system is called “Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva” which roughly translates to active aero throughout the vehicle is due significant credit for transforming the car into an absolute track animal. Active front spoiler and underside flaps coupled with the large rear wing work in real time to vary the airflow around the car to increase downforce in various conditions. The system can adjust in less than 500 milliseconds to the best aerodynamic set up, increasing stability as well as vertical downforce by 750%.
The engine power is increase to 640 horse power making it the most powerful V10 Lamborghini has ever produced. This propels the car from a standstill to 60mph in just 2.9 seconds, all the way up to a top speed over 325kmh or 201mph. The chassis and suspension are 10% stiffer over the standard Huracan coupe giving increased lateral control and cornering ability.
The order books are open now for those interested, don’t expect the price to be cheap however. As would be expected, the car will feature a heavy bump in MSRP over the “mundane” Huracan and its spider counterparts. Pricing is expected to be in the mid $200,000 range before options, so I hope your New Year’s financial savings plan is going well.
