April Hot Car - 2017 Porsche 911 R

Pure Driving meets Pure Porsche this month. When all hope was thought to be lost, Porsche sent us a car straight from our dreams and right into dealership showrooms. With all of the “purist” outrage over the recent trend towards turbo engines and automatic transmissions, Porsche has delivered what the people want and brought back what is definitely one of the most favorable combinations of engineering and great design in the automotive world. The 2017 Porsche 911 R has the approval of hot car enthusiasts the world over with a naturally aspirated engine, power to the rear wheels, and a manual gear box in the middle. And that’s not all.

Thanks to the light body frame and design, the 2017 Porsche 911 R weighs a scant 3,020 lbs. and is propelled by Porsche’s finest, fastest 500 horse power, flat 6 cylinder engine that revs up to 8250 RPM. Impressive. While some of the inspiration for this model comes from the ever popular GT3 RS’s track-focused suspension, Porsche was able to create a hot car that retains all of the best parts of the previous offering, and remove everything that detracts from a “Pure Driver’s Car”. The result is a car that is as fun to drive as it is quick, a truly brilliant combination for those that like to be involved in the driving experience. It all truly adds up to a stellar combination that will surely make this model a future “classic car” as well as a current “hot car”.

Only 991 of these cars will be built and Porsche has been taking orders for some time, so you can expect them to be nearing the “sold out” mark if they aren’t there yet already. Should there be one of these beauties left at your local dealer, feel free to contact them. All they will ask for is your signature on a few lines, and $185,000 to start things out. Based on previous mark-ups that were seen at dealerships for the GT3 RS last year, you will be hard pressed to locate a 2017 Porsche 911 R under $400,000 anytime soon. This will be a must have for The Serious Porsche Owner’s Collection. We can only hope that this ultimate driver’s car does, in fact, make it into the hands of drivers ASAP in the hopes of seeing one of these on the road once deliveries begin in late summer.
