The Civic Type R is the fastest, most powerful Honda of all time produced for the U.S. and the first Honda Civic Type R to be sold in America. Join Lauren Fix, The Car Coach® as she reviews this vehicle.

This highly anticipated Civic Type R bring the “Racing Spirit” at the heart of its production vehicles.

“Racing at Heart,” a new brand campaign linking Honda’s incredibly diverse, high-performance motorsports program to production vehicles including the new 2017 Honda Civic Type R.

From the racetrack to the road – racing is at the heart of every Honda vehicle, starting with its engine.

Unique statement of type R styling.

All ducts are functional, front mount intercooler, brake cooling ducts, full body kit, lower splitter, winglets, wiser body than typical Civic, lower skirts and air channels for more down force.

Vortex generators integrate with the large rear spoiler.

Three driving modes: Comfort, Sport and R mode

Rev matches give you less delay and quicker response, which you can shut off, but why?

Racing is a core part of Honda DNA and for over 60 years the new technologies and challenging spirit gained on the track translates into the high level of performance in the the Civic R. This new Racing at Heart campaign helps celebrate the arrival of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R and Si.

The ultimate expression of Civic, has European heritage, performance upgrades and a race car for the road.

The Red Honda badge only goes to Type-R models, this includes race cars. First Civic Type R was built in 1997, through the years the goal is always “Ultimate Sport”.

Type R included a D’shaped racing steering wheel, aluminum shift knob and Type R sport seats. I totally love the sport seats, you’ll want one as a desk chair.

Engine: High output 306 HP exclusive engine, 295 lb-ft of torque @2500-4500 RPM.

22 / 28 MPG

Drivability – great acceleration and deceleration that matches pedal input. The joy of driving a manual transmission sports car really makes the Type -R more fun to drive. The vehicle is lower is wider, better aerodynamics, new chassis, tuned and designed for less body movement and better handling. Adaptive damper and body control give a better hold on the road and track. Bigger Brembo brakes with cross drilled rotors with cooling ducts.

The meter display changes depending on drive mode giving you different information.

The exhaust is unique and sounds great. Available in Champion white, black, rally red, grey and Aegean blue.

All vehicles have Apple car play, Android auto, 20″ wheels, 7″ display auto, Naviagation, 540W stereo system, smart key and LED headlights.
