This is the first time the Pagani brand has been featured on Hot Car of the Month, but don’t think they haven’t been making hot cars. Since Pagani’s inception in 1992, they have been exclusively manufacturing hot cars. It all started with the famed Zonda, which Pagani made for over a decade. Now Pagani is moving on to their newest offering: the 2017 Pagani Huayra BC.

The phrase “This Car is a Work of Art” may be a cliché much overused in the auto industry, but with this iteration it is truly applicable and worthy. More so than any other brand in the world, Pagani makes cars that are art. From the exposed carbon and aluminum shifter mechanisms in the cabin, to the Sonus & Faber sound system tucked behind the seats and wrapped in hand-laid carbon fiber, to the striking lines you see as this car passes by on the road. Everything about this car is an art form. Drawing up this work of art isn’t the only work the CEO and founder does well, though Mr. Horacio Pagani certainly knows how to pen a beautiful car. In Horacio Pagani’s previous role as a lead engineer for Lamborghini (just down the road from Pagani) he helped to develop, in part, the famous Lamborghini Countach’s overall look and construction. While there, Horacio and his team built a special version of the Countach which featured a full carbon fiber and aluminum construction. The version Pagani helped design for Lamborghini weighed only 2,200 pounds in contrast to the standard Countach which tipped the scales at 3,300 pounds.

Knowing some of the backstory to the Lamborghini Countach that Pagani helped to engineer back in the day explains much about the 2017 Pagani Huayra BC’s construction. It certainly lends a much broader appreciation for the entirety of the Huayra BC’s beautiful design, materials and construction. Weight savings has been a primary focus for the 2017 Pagani Huayra BC which is why the car features more carbon fiber and aluminum in its construction than on any other Pagani model. To accomplish high performance with weight savings, Pagani has increased the output from its Mercedes-outsourced AMG V12 Bi-Turbo Engine to over 789 Horsepower (with total EPA compliance for emissions). Compared to the Posche 918 Spider, the new 2017 Pagani Huayra BC is over 1,000 pounds lighter and doesn’t need to resort to larger, heavier engines in order to match speed performance. The Huayra BC can still play around with the big guns, but do it in a lighter, more dynamic way. The car features an all-new 7 speed automated manual transmission (AMT) from Xtrac, a brand new electronic active differential, and a revised setting which now includes “Track Mode”.

The 2017 Pagani Huayra BC made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2016. The 2017 Pagani Huayra BC is named after the late Benny Caiola, renowned car collector and Horacio Pagani’s longtime friend. Only twenty cars are being built, and so far all of them have buyers. Should one of these beauties become available, a 2017 Pagani Huayra BC would be right around the $2.6 million mark, if not higher with customized options. Pagani has been expanding its dealer network in the U.S. so you can expect that at least a handful of U.S. customers have made large deposits in order to acquire one of these hot cars. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing these beauties Stateside, sometime in 2017.
