2016 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event by Land Rover: His Turn-Her Turn™
Horses and Horsepower The ‘Land Rover Best Ride of the Day’ At The 2016 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event
Automotive expert Lauren Fix, The Car Coach, and Paul Brian head down to Lexington, Kentucky to the 2016 Rolex 3-day event in this new edition of their His Turn-Her Turn™ Automotive Lifestyle review.
The ultimate test of horse and rider! One event, three disciplines, testing the resolve of the timeless partnership between horse and rider. The three disciplines include Dressage, Cross-Country and the Jumping Test.
The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event hosts the Western Hemisphere’s only annual Four Star Three-Day Event, the term Four Start notes the highest level of International Eventing competition.
This year’s competition will serve as a selection trial for the Rio2016 Olympic Games. Horses and riders from around the world will join their U.S. counterparts in competing for their share of $350,000 in prize money as well as a shot at the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing which is awarded to any rider who wins Rolex Kentucky, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton and Land Rover Burghley Four Star Events in succession.
DRESSAGE on Thursday and Friday is held in the breathtaking outdoor stadium at the Kentucky Horse Park, where spectators enjoy the grace, refined beauty and elegance of dressage as competitors trot their way through the first phase of competition. Dressage, which tests the gaits, suppleness and obedience of the horse through a series of prescribed movements.
The Second phase, CROSS-COUNTRY, is the highlight of Eventing. Saturday is the most exciting day of Rolex Kentucky as thousands gather to watch horses and riders gallop over four miles of the challenging terrain, at speeds up to 25 mph, while negotiating remarkable obstacles, water hazards, banks and ditches.
The JUMPING TEST, the final phase, brings the energy and precision of jumping back to the outdoor stadium on Sunday. Spectators from across the globe witness the world’s finest horses and riders test their athletic ability, conditioning and training as they soar over obstacles.
Lauren Kieffer, the top U.S. rider to complete the cross-country course closest to the optimum time without jumping penalties, won the “Land Rover Best Ride of Day” and was presented with a 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport 24-month lease at the 2016 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Presented by Land Rover this past weekend.
